Gas Prices: A Pleasant Suprise

July 4th, 2007 · No Comments

Gasoline Pump

It’s the peak of the summer driving season (July 4th), and drivers are feeling the “pain at the pump”, although it may not be as bad as it could be. According to marylandgasprices.com, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.90, a drop from the season-high of $3.14 at the beginning of summer this year.

Last year, gas prices hit an average of $3 a gallon during late April and stayed there until the Labor Day holiday. In 2005, prices skyrocketed with instability in late summer during a devastating hurricane season.

Well, let’s hope that the lower prices continue and we can travel to our summer destinations without emptying our wallets, although this year’s predicted above-normal hurricane season will probably be the spoiler.

Best places to get gas: Exxon (at Route 1 South & MD 198) and Sunoco (at Route 1 North & Bowie Rd) have been the lowest prices in the area for weeks now. This weekend, regular unleaded at these two locations was $2.69.
