Your HSBC Direct 1099-INT

January 25th, 2007 · 21 Comments

It’s tax season. Waiting for your 1099-INT from HSBC Direct? If you’ve set up to receive your statements electronically-only, you probably already have it, although you may not know it.

HSBC Direct sends out your 1099-INT with your January statement. The problem is, if you chose not to receive statements by mail, HSBC never really gives a heads up to expect it online. For me, I just check the “Account Detail” every once in a while, and I don’t bother to check my “eStatements” at all. But if you’ll take a peek your eStatement for the end of January, you’ll see your 1099-INT hidden in page two.

Update: For the 2009 tax season, HSBC has included a separate link to your 1099-INT. Look in the left sidebar for “eStatements”. Click on that once to expand the sub-menu, and then you’ll see “View Income Tax eStatements”. Click on that and then a link to a pdf of your HSBC 1099-INT will appear.

Meanwhile, over at ING Direct they have a link to your tax documents right in the middle of your account summary page. I guess it’s the little things that make ING the better bank.

Thanks! Your info is still applicable over a year later. You’d think that HSBC would try and make this easier to find. This is exactly why I hate having everything electronic. You are at the whim of their website have the statements you need.

Thanks! I had spent so much time in their website trying to find it that I was getting ready to call them.

    Great tip, thanx!

Thanks for the info – I just found it (via google) as I was wondering about the form for 2008 taxes. Interestingly, I _did_ get mailed a 1099 from HSBC last year, despite otherwise being all-electronic, but not yet this year. Fortunately, the pointer to the statement held true again this year (I totally overlooked it when I was looking myself).

Ditto – not a very user friendly experience. I work in Internet Banking at a competitor bank and this is plain silly.

See this is what the Internet is great at, I search for 1099-INT using HSBC’s search and get…absolutely nothing related. I google it and your blog comes up first with the correct answer. Right on!

Thanks for the heads up. A quick search of their site doesn’t come up with anything even remotely helpful.

it really helped.. i was not able to find the damn thing..

I don’t see any 1099-INT info anywhere in those PDFs from Jan or Feb (or Mar).

I’m on the phone with HSBC now… man, I hate them. I’m switching back to E*Trade Bank (which I switched off because I was nervous about their viability).

Just finished with them. They apologized that my 1099-INT was not in my Jan statement. He can mail me another copy, though. Thanks, but no thanks! I’ll be switching to a real bank, thank you very much!

Thanks for the tip! Googled how to find it and your tip came up! Their website has a link to a 1099-int form, but when you click on it, it just brings you to your old statement page. You have to know to look through your January statement entirely to find it. Heaven forbid they put it on the first page. Thanks!

I added up all the numbers myself, but I needed HSBC’s ID #. Thanks for putting this on the web as I found my 1099 on page 2 right where you said it would be!

    hey, thanks a bunch.
Why couldn’t they just put a link to a separate file like ING? Or just mail it to you for free like dollarsavingsdirect…
